Mdina - the silent city
(former capital of Malta)

One day we went with Mario to Mdina, Malta´s former capital (until 1571), it´s situated inland, next to Rabat, on a high plateau. Mdina is a "walled in city", very old and with narrow alleys. Today you find it as a very quiet city, with nearly non-existent traffic, and with few people out in the alleys. Mdina has only about 420 inhabitants. You can find some very nice restaurants and shops there though, a "must" to visit when in Malta!

In Rabat, which you find right outside the gates of Mdina we went down in some very ancient catacombs, they say there are acres of them... we didn`t´t visit them all....:)))
